Leonard Cohen Is Still Your Man, Still Touring
– March 27, 2012A word of advice for any 20-something rockers who trot out that old line about how exhausting touring is should take heed.
Leonard Cohen, the 77-year-old singer-songwriter who has been working non-stop since his 30′s, spent two and a half years touring between 2008 and 2010, escaped financial ruin brought on by a bastard of a manager, found time to record a new album and is now set to embark on another globe-spanning tour this summer.
Promoting his latest LP Old Ideas, the poet laureate of dry wit and tattered romance is heading out on a European tour beginning in Ghent, Belgium on August 8th. Cohen will then cut across the Atlantic for a North American wing of the promotion, the dates for which will be announced in the coming months.
Old Ideas is Leonard Cohen’s 12th studio album and his first since 2004′s Dear Heather. It has topped out at #3 on the Billboard 200 and climbed to the top of several European charts. It’s Cohen’s best-reviewed record in ages and a hell of a listen for old fans and newcomers alike.
Always the grim humorist, Cohen himself might refer to this as everyone’s last chance to see him live, but then again he might just do a grand tour of heaven with new songs about shabby, over-sexed angels
