Tonight is the first nght of Hanukah 2012 and Leonard Cohen and his UHTC are on the road again.
Two years ago, rpan on the Leonard Cohen forum posted a wonderful video link of Leonard Cohen chanting the blessings over the candle lighting on the first night of Hanukah 2010.
This is what I posted on the forum (1.4.11)
It was thrilling to hear LC chant the three blessings over the candle lighting on the first night of Hanukah.
The first two blessings are chanted every night of Hanukah when lighting the candles.
The third blessing, the shehecheyanu, is only chanted on the first night.
First Blessing
Baruch ata Adonai, Elohenu melech ha-olam
asher kideshanu be-mitzvotav, ve-tzivanu le-hadlik
ner shel Hanukah.
Blessed are you, Lord our G-d, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us by his commandments, and has commanded us to kindle the lights of Hanukah.
Second Blessing
Baruch ata Adonai, Elohenu melech ha-olam
she-asa nisim la-avotenu ba-yamim ha-hem
ba-zeman ha-zeh.
Blessed are you, Lord our G-d, King of the Universe,
Who wrought miracles for our fathers in days of old, at this season.
Third blessing - only on the first night
Baruch ata Adonai, Elohenu melech ha-olam
she-hecheyanu, ve-kiyemanu, ve-higiyanu la-zeman ha-zeh.
Blessed are you, Lord our G-d, King of the Universe,
Who has kept us alive, and has preserved us,
and enabled us to reach this season.

The first night of Hanukah in 2010 was on Dec 1 The Vancouver concert was on Dec 2, the second night of Hankuah but the first night when everybody could gather together.
